Good food and drink - not only for professionals

The right kind of food keeps your body fit and gives you the strength to put in your best performance when it comes to sport. Wholemeal products and fresh fruit are essential - and don't forget to drink plenty as well! By the way, the ideal diet for sports professionals is also good for less sporty types.

Performance enhancing foods and drinks are unnecessary and can sometimes even be harmful. For endurance activities your body needs carbohydrates, whereas strength and muscle development requires protein. Since both carbohydrates and protein are sufficiently present in our daily food anyway, our bodies don't need any extra.

Tips for sports fans:

Never eat before exercising.
Wait 2-3 hours after a meal. Even if you only had a snack, it can take up to three hours for the food to be digested!

Don't go hungry either!
In order to get the necessary amount of energy try eating a light snack. Quark with fresh fruit or a slice of wholemeal bread with low-fat cheese are ideal choices, and a banana is an unbeatable power supply in between meals.

Always drink plenty!
It is important that you drink plenty before, during and after sport. Mineral water or light fruit juice spritzers are ideal. They are thirst-quenching and contain minerals which can quickly be processed by your body.
