Exciting sporting facts

Ever upwards
The Tatra Mountains are the smallest high mountain range in Europe, but they have an abundance of dense forests, lakes and rivers. Since eleven of the Tatra peaks are over 2,600 metres high, the area is ideal for mountain climbing. In winter there are more than nine ski sport centres with excellent pistes and cross-country courses, perfect for skiing enthusiasts.

Wild waters
In 1996 Slovakia took part in the Olympic Games for the fist time as an independent country, which proved highly successful. Michal Martikan won the gold medal in the Kayak Slalom, while Ivan Klementjev won silver in the Kayak Flatwater Race.
