Malta

Exciting sporting facts

Discovering sport
Although there are not that many famous Maltese sportsmen and -women, the island offers great opportunities for sports enthusiasts. According to the Maltese tourist board, Malta has the clearest sea in the entire Mediterranean. So get yourself a pair of goggles and explore the colourful underwater world with its rare fish! And if you aren't scared of heights and like great sea views, then how about climbing around on the rocky Dingli Cliffs?

Masters Street Championships
On the 28th and 29th of April 2001, the small Maltese Athletics Association had a big task on their hands when they organised the Masters Street Championships. The event consisted of a 10 kilometre street race, a half marathon over 21 kilometres, a 30 kilometre walking competition for men and a 20 kilometre walking contest for women.
A relay race over 4 x 3,000 metres was held in parallel to the championships.
